A Brief History
Founded April 20, 1994, the GLBTSU (formerly B-GLAD) is a student, faculty and staff organization at East Carolina University that is dedicated to the promotion of diversity awareness and GLBT education on campus as well as in the community.
Shortly after amending the organization's constitution with a non-discriminatory policy that added gender identity and gender expression, the Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians, and Allies for Diversity (B-GLAD) student organization adopted a new name in order to be more inclusive of the transgendered community, resulting in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Student Union (GLBTSU).
Who We Are Today
As an ever-growing and prominent student organization on our campus, we recognize the needs of many of our members and student body as they relate to GLBT student issues. We continually strive to provide an accessible network of resources to all students, and provide personal and professional support to those who seek it.
We work hard to ensure that the climate on campus is suitable for persons from all walks of life, particularly our GLBT students and Allies, by engaging faculty, staff, and administration to make real impacting differences in our university system that aid these goals.
